What is Katsudon?
Sure, I’d be happy to write about Katsudon for you!
Katsudon is a delicious Japanese dish that is popular among both locals and tourists. It consists of a deep-fried pork cutlet, called “tonkatsu,” that is simmered in a sweet and savory broth with onions and egg, and served over a bed of steaming hot rice. The combination of crispy tonkatsu, fluffy eggs, and flavorful broth makes Katsudon a comforting and satisfying meal that is perfect for any occasion.
Making Katsudon at home is relatively easy and requires only a few ingredients. You can find tonkatsu at most Asian grocery stores or make it yourself by coating pork loin or pork chops in flour, egg, and panko breadcrumbs and frying until golden brown. The broth for Katsudon is made with dashi, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar, and is simmered with onions until they are tender and fragrant. Once the broth is ready, beaten eggs are poured over the pork and onions and cooked until the eggs are set. Finally, the mixture is served over hot rice and garnished with sliced scallions and pickled ginger.
If you’re looking for a hearty and delicious Japanese meal, I highly recommend giving Katsudon a try. It’s easy to make and will quickly become a favorite in your household.
